Town hall

The town hall of the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn consists
of two main volumes. A transparent part, the so-called 'Palette',
and a more secluded part, the z rear section. The assignment was
to design a building emanating the public nature of a town hall,
an institution at the service of it’s users and Alphen’s residents. The
architect designed a building with a completely glass façade and
a projecting end. By pushing back the storey floors on the side of
the street, a large glass sun lounge was created. The roof is
hanging between the 'Palette' and the rear section, so the number
of columns in this room could be reduced to a minimum.
